CADR and Room Coverage
CADR, the clean air delivery rate, tells you how quickly a purifier removes particles. Match it to your room size in square metres and the number of air changes you want per hour. Bedrooms feel fresh at four to five air changes per hour, while living rooms with pets may benefit from higher settings. Manufacturer charts are a useful guide, but allow a margin if you plan to keep doors open or run at ultra low noise.
Noise and Energy
For sleep, choose a unit with a quiet night mode and a low decibel rating at the airflow you need. Many models are nearly silent on the lowest setting. Energy draw is typically modest at low speeds, so you can run continuously without a large bill. Fan noise rather than motor buzz should be what you hear; if the tone is harsh, consider a different design.
Placement and Maintenance
Place the purifier away from walls and large furniture so it can draw and exhaust freely. Keep it near the pollution source if you can, such as by a litter tray or where pollen blows in. Replace filters on schedule and vacuum the pre filter monthly. If you notice odours returning or the airflow dropping, it is time for a new carbon or HEPA element.
